Wheels for June 3
by John Kanelis

Andrew Chaddick has the secret to healthy living: Make sure your calorie consumption falls off later in the day. Andrew is the health director of the Downtown Athletic Club and is a fit young man. He says we eat "for a variety of reasons: depression, celebration, the economy." So, it's vital that we eat sufficiently to provide energy for the day, but not in the evening. Be sure as well to "stay hydrated" throughout the day, Andrew said. "It keeps you feeling full, and helps you resist the temptation to overeat," he said. Those are all common-sense solutions. Thanks for the advice, Andrew.

We grew our ranks by one with the induction of Abby Estes as our newest club member. Abby has been brought into the club by Pam Rushing under the classification of Clothing Retail. Welcome to the club, Abby.

So long, Lydia Shen. Lydia, our Rotary Youth Exchange student bid us farewell as she prepares to return to her home in Taiwan. Lydia completed her year of studies at Ascension Academy. We wish you all the best, Lydia.

Hold-Up will be getting underway this week. Our annual Hold-Up is set to begin on Wednesday. All our dates have been filled by hosts. Thanks to all our Rotarians for stepping up to play host to our visitors, who will leave Amarillo with fond memories -- including a night's lodging, dinner and an evening at the musical "Texas" -- that will last a lifetime. We'll be "arresting" those passing through each Wednesday until Aug. 18.

We saluted our June birthdays this week: Doyle Moore, Ed Harell, Karen Hicks, Phillis Jackson, Dorothy Puckett, Valerie Fulkerson and Shara Hinchey. Happy birthday to you all. And while we're celebrating, Johnny and Amy Crowley, Paul and Paula Borchardt and Bill and Patricia Summerhill all celebrate wedding anniversaries this month. Congratulations to you all.

Thanks this week to go: Governor-nominee David Norris for presiding; Doyle Moore for leading us in song; Pam Rushing for playing the piano; Paige Carruth for the invocation; Bob Juba for introducing guests and visiting Rotarians; Dale Bippus and Gary Mitchell for greeting members; and Johnny Crowley for selling Foundation tickets.

And speaking of the drawing, the dough is getting serious. It's up to more than 3 grand. The deck is getting sparser and sparser each week.
